Emilio and Juan Pablo have opted for clean energy with the purpose of improving mobility conditions in large cities. The Hybridus electric bicycle built by them seeks to take the first step to change the trend in riding.
Throughout his life Nikola Tesla dedicated himself to making inventions based on the benefits of clean energy and alternating current. In 1886 when he founded his own company, Tesla Electric Light & Manufacturing, he was branded a maniac believing his devices would not work. They were wrong. Six months ago, following in the inventor's footsteps, a couple of friends took his savings and invested them in the creation of a company with the purpose of developing electric vehicles: Armadillo Motors.
Seven prototypes developed over more than two years were enough for Emilio Sosa, 23, and Juan Pablo García, 24, to obtain a commercial product with the characteristics of a bicycle and a motorcycle, which they called Hybridus.
“Our initial dream was to make a car, but when we saw Europe Cell Phone Number List the numbers we realized that it was impossible. We had to spend millions on the prototype alone, so we went towards something more tangible. We made comparisons and discovered that one of the best-selling vehicles in the world is the electric bicycle and we started from there,” Juan Pablo tells Forbes Mexico.
The Mechatronics Engineers from the Universidad Iberoamericana de León point out that when starting Armadillo Motors, they knew that they would face a great challenge. The electric bicycle market has great competition, therefore, they decided to focus on a little-known segment: high-performance electric bicycles.

Bet on alternative mobility
electric bicycleElectric bicycles according to the law are regulated with 250 watt motors and assisted pedaling, therefore the creators of Hybridus do not consider it 100% an electric bicycle.
Emilio and Juan Pablo assure that when manufacturing Hybridus they thought about uniting the best of both worlds. On the one hand, the competitive advantages of the bicycle and on the other the power and agility of a motorcycle.
The Hybridus electrical system works independently of the mechanics (manual pedaling). On a daily trip it can reach a speed of 55 km/h.
It has three computers, the first controls the energy, the second reviews the life cycle and the third indicates the watts consumed during the trip and the distance traveled.
It is recharged by connecting it to electricity for a couple of hours, which represents a cost of 0.90 cents. On average the lithium ion battery consumes 1,500 watts.
Another reason why we chose this area is because cars are more complex. The electric bicycle is the first step of mobility and is the simplest electric vehicle in all its expression,” details Emilio.
Sustainability is an important topic for Armadillo Motors. Once the Hybridus life cycle concludes, all parts, including the battery, can be recycled and used again for the manufacture of new bicycles.
One of the fundamental pillars of the technology company is to hire Mexican manufacturing for the development of all the parts of its products, “we want to grow hand in hand with our suppliers. It is a win-win model, you obtain merchandise and create jobs,” explains Juan Pablo.
